Killer Friends
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android
In the middle of a job gone wrong in a city already at a breaking point of civil tensions, a group of mercenaries want something only you have. Who will you trust?
Killer Friends is a sci-fi short-story turned visual novel written in the first-person perspective. It explores touchy political topics and potential implications of technologies in their infancy today.
Please note - this is not a 'relationship' VN. It's a story dealing with sensitive topics with serious consequences. If you're easily offended, do not play.
This project is the result of me wanting to learn the process of writing
a branching narrative and making a game out of it using Ren'Py. It's
~18k words and might take an hour or so to get through, longer if you
explore the 5 endings. Feel free to leave any feedback in the
comments or directly via contact info below.
Content Warning (minor spoilers): contains strong language, mature themes, depictions of suicide, references to abuse of minors.
Mac users: please note I have not tested the Mac build myself. Let me know if there are any problems with the mac version. Android users may find some audio stuttering on very old devices. Works fine on a Pixel4a.
Music includes tracks by Karl Casey @ White Bat Audio. Check out his stuff if you're into synthwave!
Usage of AI: Backgrounds and some sounds are AI generated and then edited. Big thanks and respect to all the artists whose work contributed to their generation. Because of this, the game is released complete and free, forever. AI was not used to create the characters, program, or write the story. Hopefully future projects will not need this.
At this time I won't be posting this outside of Itch.io, so be wary of re-uploads to other platforms/websites.
